Covering 1000 acres, Vancouver's Stanley Park is a downtown sanctuary that offers city dwellers and visitors a multitude of indoor and outdoor activities.

1. Ride the Seawall
Rent a bike, including a bicycle built for two, or rollerblades and ride the park's 9km (5.5 mile) sea wall path.

5. Vancouver Aquarium

Vancouver Aquarium, which houses more than 70,000 animals in 116,000 sq. ft. of facility space. Opened daily, the aquarium charges an admission but profits go toward supporting its mission to conserve aquatic life. Free public parking is adjacent to the Aquarium. Translink Bus and Skytrain public transit operates year-round.

7. Hike
Head into Stanley Park's interior and hike the paths that run through the park and feature fabulous flora and fauna.

8. Take a Train Ride
Take a 15 minute ride through the towering cedars and Douglas fir on a miniature replica of Locomotive Engine #374, the first transcontinental passenger train to pull into Vancouver in 1886.

9. Teach the Kids How to Drive
Take the kids for driving lessons at the parks Traffic School! During July and August, children five to eight years old maneuver pedal cars around a course supervised by the Vancouver Police Department.

10. Swim
Third Beach, Stanley ParkCool off at the free childrens water park, or the heated fresh water pool at Second Beach (admission). In addition, two lifeguarded bathing beaches are open from Victoria Day (third Monday in May) through Labour Day.
